Yoga Nidra is the science of ‘conscious relaxation.’ In Yoga Nidra, you lay on the ground in a comfortable position. And are skillfully guided in a ‘body scan’ known as a ‘rotation of consciousness.' This gentle, guided focus can be incredibly restorative and relaxing and has numerous physical and mental benefits.

  • If you want to experience a Yoga Nidra practice in a safe and caring environment.

In this workshop we will:

  • We will spend the beginning portion learning about the science of Yoga Nidra and then proceed to a restorative and gentle Yoga Nidra practice. Coming out of the practice, we will open the floor for questions and/or discussions about how the experiential practice landed in your body and mind.

  • the science behind Yoga Nidra in brief

  • the emphasis of this workshop, however, will be experiential

PROPS YOU WILL NEED:

  • Please wear comfy clothes.

  • An established practice space - this space might mean a yoga mat or blanket to lay or - you can also lay on the bed or sofa.

  • Consider having a small pillow to place under the head.

  • Optional blanket to cover the body during the practice.

  • Your camera can be turned on or off for the entire workshop, whichever you prefer.

ABOUT MARKAY: Markay is a respectful, welcoming, and encouraging teacher that has studied the body and taught movement for more than 15yrs. She incorporates breath, alignment, and trauma-informed cues into her classes ensuring the safety and comfort for her students while guiding them to listen to their body's unique needs.

Markay's favorite breath technique is the Kirtan Kriya as it combines a soothing and self directed breath cadence with a mudra and mantra of one's choosing. She finds that the Kriya grounds and centers her while helping her to find calmness. She has co-authored a manual on using breath techniques to support the prevention and recovery of COVID-19.

Markay is a RYT500, a breath coach and a nutrition and wellness counselor. She is working to complete her Yoga Therapeutics certificate and her Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credentials. She holds concurrent B.S. in Nutritional Sciences and Food Science and an MBA. When not on the mat, Markay is shamelessly reading medical and psychology journals and is doting on her plant-babies.
