Juliana Mitchell, C-IAYT (she/her) is a full time yoga teacher and yoga therapist, living in NYC. She's devoted to the dynamic grace of movement, the healing oasis of stillness and the powerful beauty of awareness and compassion. Her teaching style is precise and playful, emphasizing the journey toward artfully inhabiting our bodies and our lives. Her primary teachers are Patanjali’s "Yoga Sutra" & Judith Hanson-Lasater.
She’s earned nine Yoga teaching certifications: Restorative, Advanced Restorative & Advanced Teaching Methodologies (each with Judith Lasater), Pelvic Floor Yoga (with Leslie Howard), Prenatal, Yin Yoga, 200-Hour Vinyasa Yoga and Yoga Rope Wall, as well as Yoga Therapy (through IAYT). Juliana completed an intensive study at the Atma Vikasa Centre of Yogic Science in Mysore, India.
Teaching since 2004, she’s taught yoga in-person & online across six continents. She teaches private classes (in-person & online) for people seeking classes adapted to their needs. She also offers 3 weekly classes at a local yoga studio, The Yoga Room, which has been her teaching home from the start. She’s led numerous trainings for teachers, ranging from modules on The Yoga Sutra, to trainings in anatomy, kinesiology, respiration & pranayama, and including specialized certifications such as Prenatal Yoga and Restorative Yoga.
Juliana had the privilege of acting as prenatal Yoga mentor to Dr. Shilpa Babbar, an obstetrician conducting a randomized controlled trial to measure the impact of prenatal yoga on fetal behavior (Truman Medical Center, Kansas City). Additionaly she provided advisement to Dr. Barbara Chuback, a urologist out of Mount Sinai Hospital, on her plans to to assess the impact of yoga on a key type of pelvic floor dysfunction.
To date, she’s attended 4 births and officiated 5 unions.
